Daniel Levy will hold Manchester United to ransom if they want to nab manager Mauricio Pochettino from north London at the end of the season.United have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a caretaker position until the end of the season after sacking Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.3

Mauricio Pochettino is a man in demand

However, Tottenham Hotspur boss Pochettino is the man they want to sign, and chief exec Ed Woodward will be buoyed by news the Argentine wants to be considered for the role.But Spurs chairman Levy is unlikely to allow the 46-year-old leave without a fight.According to The Times, United had planned to buy the Argentine out of his contract by paying a sum of 40million in compensation. The report says Levy will demand a far greater sum for the services of a manager who has taken Spurs so far in just four-and-a-half-years.A price of around 34million was initially mooted considering Poch signed a new deal at the end of last season and has four years remaining. A further 6million would be required to release his backroom staff.3

Levy is notoriously difficult to work with when it comes to letting people leave Spurs

The new deal did not contain a release clause and Levy believes it is impossible for the Old Trafford hierarchy to simply buy their manager.Instead, he wants a negotiation pattern similar to that of a transfer for a player with a hefty price tag. He feels players are sold for more money than simply the value of their contract and the same principle should be applied to managers.United have always found it difficult to work harmoniously with Spurs when it comes to transfers – as experienced with Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov.A natural businessman, Levy refused to sell either player for less than their worth, despite both wanting to join the Red Devils.3
